FSL Footies Training Program

FOOTIES TRAINING PROGRAM

Updated 7/12/2018

WHAT IS FOOTIES?

Footies began in 2015 with the aim of enhancing the Fairhope rec experience for the soccer community.  Footies is a development program that provides a more advanced training environment for rec players who seek to develop individual skills at a more accelerated rate than the traditional recreational model offers.  Footies train under the guidance of professional coaches once a week throughout the entire recreational season.

In Spring 2018, we implemented a change to the Footies training package. Based on feedback from our community, and in an effort to better serve all of our players at the highest level, Footies players will be placed on Footies rosters and will not play non-Footies teams during the season.  It is vital that all players within the soccer community are able to excel and be challenged in an age appropriate way. We continue to be proud of this developmental program as we enter our third year of implementation.  We believe this minor alteration of the training /playing structure will serve our players in an enhanced way and continue to strengthen our growing soccer community

The Footies program also provides parent education by effectively communicating the strategies and curricular choices made by coaches who are trained to elicit guided discovery with each and every player.

HOW DOES FOOTIES WORK?

Footies is open to all U7  and U8 players on a first-come, first-serve basis. There are 25 slots open for boys and girls in each age group.

Footies training will take place TUESDAY NIGHTS from 5:30-6:15 this FALL. Attendance at all practices is not mandatory, but recommended so that your child will receive the greatest benefit from the program.

Footies coaches advise volunteer coaches with the shared goals of:  1) fostering FUN and 2) introducing and reinforcing early learning focused on individual skills and fundamentals of the game.

It is highly recommended that players who register for Footies have completed one full season of rec soccer.

All 2011 (U8) and 2012 (U7) players have the option of paying an additional fee $70 for FALL 2018 for the Footies training package:

  • Footies will have professional training from licensed coaches one day a week (Tuesday 5:30pm-6:15pm this Fall)

  •  Footies players will train once a week with their volunteer coaches.

  •  Rec games as scheduled against the Footies teams during the season.

    • Game dates: September 22nd, 29th; October 6,th 9th or 11th, 16th or 18th, 27th, November 3rd, 10th  Times vary.

  • Schedules will be posted online at least one week prior to opening day.

  • Referee fees for two playdates, jamboree-style where they will play alongside each other against teams from a neighboring organization. One playdate at home & one away.

  • Footies will have the option to participate in an competitive tournament if interest is high enough.

WHO WILL COACH MY CHILD?
Professional coaches and current collegiate players will coach Footies.  Parents of Footies will be asked to volunteer as assistants. Additionally,  FSC Development Director Josh Montgomery will be present at sessions to help educate parents about each week’s training.

Ali LeBlanc, Girls Lead Coach: Ali is a former standout for the University of Alabama women’s soccer team and was a highly successful club and ODP player in Florida.  Ali currently holds a USSF “E” license. She has been promoted to Head Girls Coach for Bayside Academy. Ali is currently on our Fairhope Academy coaching staff.  Her goals are to grow the girl's program within the club.

Former Footies Spring 2018 Volunteer Coaches: Amy Paulson, Matt Miller, Michelle Kane, Steven Sprayberry, Hayes Knapp, Haden Giddings, Paul McIntire, Adrian Anderson, Trent Deshazo, Jamie Doggett

WHAT WILL MY CHILD BE LEARNING?
Ultimately our charge is to provide rec soccer players an opportunity to be part of a high quality developmental program led by licensed, professional coaches as well as Fairhope rec volunteer coaches. Aimed at players that possess a strong passion for the game, Footies is a soccer development program that follows US Soccer’s age-appropriate soccer curriculum to enhance technical ability and basic tactical awareness.

The Footies Developmental training program will provide a fun and challenging environment that will enhance each player’s confidence, technique, and instincts to accelerate an understanding of the game and better prepare them for more competitive environments in the future.

HOW CAN I HELP/BE INVOLVED?
Parent education will be a priority.  Practice sessions will be open to the parents and the structure of sessions will be explained via email and/or informal meetings by either the lead coaches, the Director of Coaching, or the FSC Development Director.
We welcome all parents into the program, regardless of your experience with or knowledge of the game!  Any parent who is interested in serving as a volunteer assistant (coach, assistant coach, team coordinator) should communicate that desire during the registration process – we would love to have you!
